Every year the league holds a knockout competition.

The competition starts on the Last Saturday of every August

The competition comprises of 8 rounds of 1 v 1 matches.

The number of entries is limited to a maximum of 255 participants.

To compete you must be a member of the league.

Unlike earlier years, the distances in each round can be from 1Km to 21.1Km it is the choice of each competitor to run any distance within these limits.

Each round commences at 00:01 UTC/GMT on the Saturday and finishes on the following Friday at 23:59 UTC/GMT

All processing of results are completed immediately

Scoring will be the highest league result of the week within the round's time limits.

All participants will receive a seed.

Seeding will be calculated right up to the commencement of round 1

Seeding will be calculated based on a competitors scoring over the season to date.

Seeding determines the draw.

Seed #256 is always a 'Bye' meaning the #1 Seed always receives a 'Bye' in the first round.

Each competitor will receive a handicap.

The handicap is based on the competitors best score over the season to date.

During the competition, a competitor's handicap may increase based on performance, but never decrease.

A match score is the competitors Gross Score less Handicap. e.g. 848 points - 921 points = -73

Nett scores can be positive or negative

Late submissions are not accepted. No exceptions.

Where neither competitor competes in a round, the participant with the lowest handicap will progress.

Where there is a shortfall of the 255 entries, (which is normal), lower seeds will be filled with a 'Bye'

Order of play is weekly 1 v 1 matches in bracketed knockout format. i.e. Round 1 - 256, Round 2 - 128, Round 3 - 64, Round 4 - 32, Round 5 - 16, Round 6 - 8 , Round 7 - 4, Round 8 - 2

All timings are to UTC i.e. Wherever a participant is in the world the rounds start and stop exactly at the same time. For the sake of clarity,... Synaptic's clock is posted on the website.
