Today we talk with Dave Ronan - Dave is from Manchester, and has a 4 year old Fellhound 'Venger' and a 5 year old Doberman 'Leyna'. Dave got into canicross just to tire Leyna out, then entered a few competitions and absolutely fell in love with the community and all that goes into race day. He has stepped up events and runs 1 or 2 races a month who will compete the UK's first cani-human ultra marathon
Q1. What do you like about Canicross ? At first my dobie Leyna was as reactive as they come. After a year of events she now does mass starts and has only one thing on her mind and that's getting ahead. So it's changed her completely. The newbie hound venger is more of a speed merchant and is now doing long distances for the first time in his life. I love the community that surrounds canicross
Q2. What don't you like about Canicross ? What is there to hate about being out with your dog haha
Q3. What are your canicross ambitions for the future ? I'll get the ultra done and we will see what's the next challenge
Q4. What are your thoughts approaching our first World Cup, and competing at an international level ? Testing yourself against people around the world is the ultimate
Q5. What strategies do you think you will use during the tournament ? Same as always, hang on and hope you're on your feet at the end
Q6. What do you think the secret is to winning a knockout ? Consistency
Q7. How do you think you will prepare both mentally and physically for competing in a tough knockout competition ? I run daily with my hound , so nothing will change physically or mentally ( I hope)
Q8. Are there other questions we should have asked that you would have liked us to ask ? If so what are they and what would be the answer(s)? My favourite cheese is Lancashire crumbly 😅
